The Ladies’ section of The Springs Golf Club is an active part of the club. There are over 120 lady members of whom about 100 hold a current official handicap.
The inclusive nature of the club means that ladies, men and juniors are encouraged to play together in the varied competition calendar. However, each Wednesday morning is devoted to the Ladies’ Section. There is a Stableford competition on each second Wednesday and an LGU medal on the last Wednesday of the month. Between these the ladies meet for a social round of golf or matches. In addition, the Ladies have a full programme of matches against other local clubs, playing both home and away. There are also a number of mixed matches.
The annual calendar includes a number of ’fun’ competitions for all members to enjoy plus a selection of social events. There are also the prestigious days such as the Club Championships and Captains’ Day. Both the Ladies’ and Men’s sections hold Invitation Days and there is a Mixed Invitation as well.
Beginners are welcome at The Springs and the Ladies occasionally have special tuition clinics run by the Club Professional on Wednesday mornings during the season which prove to be very popular. There are also opportunities for beginners to play with handicap players. Apart from Wednesdays, Ladies may of course play at any other time.
There are two ladies’ courses, one of 5376 yards long with a par 72 and a standard scratch score of 70, and the other of 5651 with a standard scratch score of 72. Being close to the river Thames, it is a gentle walk but the course offers a good challenge.
The Clubhouse is an attractive Georgian style building offering a friendly environment and the Ladies are encouraged to meet together for a drink and a snack after their round on Wednesdays.
